HAPPY HOLY WEEK! HAPPY EASTER! HOT CROSS BUNS RECIPE!















Well we are already here in Holy Week. And Easter approaches, kids will be out of school. Time to rest a bit! I am adding a favorite recipe of mine for Easter morning breakfast....Hot Cross Buns! This is my mom's special recipe and so yummy to munch with your "candy" on Easter morning.
ENJOY!!

HOT CROSS BUNS
(Makes 24 buns)

-2 pkg. dry yeast
-1/2 cup warm water
-1/4 cup milk, scalded
-1/2 cup oil
-1/3 cup sugar
-3/4 tsp. salt
-3 1/2 to 4 cups flour
-1/2 to 1 tsp. cinnamon
-3 beaten eggs
-2/3 cup currants
-1 egg white
-powdered sugar

(Soften yeast in warm water. Mix milk, oil, sugar and salt. Cool. Mix 1 cup of flour with cinnamon and stir into first mixture. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in yeast and currants. Add enough flour to make a soft dough beating well. Cover with damp cloth and let rise till doubles. About 1 1/2 hours. Punch down. Turn out on floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Roll or pat to 1/2 inch. Cut into 2 1/2 rounds and shape into buns. Place on a greased sheet. cover and let rise till doubles. About 1 hour. Cut shallow cross in each bun with sharp knife. brush tops with slightly beaten egg white. bake 375 degrees for 15 minutes. cool slightly and frost the cross area. Frosting recipe follows:)

Frosting for Hot Cross Buns:

-3/4 cup powdered sugar to remaining egg white OR water if you prefer. Pipe on crosses.

CAN MIX DOUGH NIGHT BEFORE AND REFRIGERATE AND CUT IN AM......ENJOY!!!
